Grom Comp Club at Rat Town Jiu Jitsu: Helping Young Competitors Take the Next Step
At Rat Town Jiu Jitsu in Atlantic Beach, competition is about much more than winning medals. It is about building confidence, developing discipline, learning resilience, and challenging yourself in ways that carry over into everyday life.
For young athletes who are already competing or thinking about stepping onto the competition mats, Rat Town Jiu Jitsu offers a focused training opportunity through the Grom Comp Club.
Led by Coach Triston, the Grom Comp Club is designed specifically for young grapplers who want additional competition-focused training beyond regular class instruction.
What Is the Grom Comp Club?
The Grom Comp Club is an additional training opportunity created for students who are serious about improving their competition performance. While regular classes provide a strong foundation in technique, movement, and live training, competition preparation often requires a different level of focus.
The club emphasizes competition strategy, situational training, match pacing, tournament mindset, rules awareness, advanced drilling, and competition-style rounds.
Who Is It For?
The Grom Comp Club is designed for kids who already compete, kids who are thinking about competing, and students who want extra competition-focused training.
For students already competing, this program provides additional mat time and structured preparation to help sharpen their skills and improve their confidence.
For students considering their first tournament, the Grom Comp Club offers a supportive way to learn what competition training feels like before stepping onto the tournament mats.
The Benefits of Competition Training
One of the biggest misconceptions about youth competition is that it is only about winning. In reality, the lessons learned through training and competition often extend far beyond Jiu Jitsu.
Competition training helps young athletes build confidence, develop resilience, improve focus, handle pressure, and learn how to keep moving forward after both wins and losses.
It also strengthens team bonds. Although Jiu Jitsu is an individual sport, competition preparation is often a team effort. Students encourage one another, train together, and celebrate each other’s progress.
Why Specialized Competition Training Matters
Regular classes are essential for learning and growth, but competition preparation requires students to understand how to manage intensity, stay composed under pressure, follow tournament rules, and execute a game plan in real time.
The Grom Comp Club gives young athletes dedicated time to focus on these important aspects of competitive Jiu Jitsu in a positive and challenging environment.
Led by Coach Triston
The Grom Comp Club is led by Coach Triston, who works closely with students to help them prepare for competition and continue developing as athletes.
His approach is designed to be challenging, supportive, and encouraging. Students are pushed to improve while continuing to enjoy the learning process that makes Jiu Jitsu so rewarding.
